How to overcome fear and become unstoppable

Courage is the weapon we need whenever fear shows up. When you feel afraid of doing something you already have the knowledge and ability to do,  the winning strategy is simple: go ahead and do it - then keep doing it consistently.  In the long run,  the fear you feel will give way to confidence. Your courage and faith in your ability will grow,  enabling you to rise above fear and self- doubt -- which are the root causes of procrastination, hesitation and self-denial.

Here's a truth you must never forget:

👉 Anything you've never done before will almost always stir up fear the first time you attempt to do it - especially when it comes to public speaking,  live broadcasts, or stepping into the public space.

But here's the good news: you are not the only one.  Nobody starts something for the first time  feeling completely comfortable or confident.

The Story of Gloria: From Fear to Boldness

I remember one of my mentees, Sister Gloria, a Christian upcoming preacher. The first time she wanted to go live on Facebook was a real battle.

One morning, around 5:00 a.m., she called me. Surprised, I thought something was wrong because she had never called me that early. After our greetings, she suddenly said:

“Sir, can you just go to Facebook right now?”

I asked, “To do what?” She replied, “I want to go live to share some of my messages.”

I was shocked. “Why now?” I asked. After some hesitation, she finally confessed:

“I wanted to just do it and run away before people wake up, because I’m afraid to do it when many are online watching me.”

I told her to relax and prepare for a proper time — Sunday evening at 6 p.m. On that day, she went live. It was tough, and I could see her struggling, but I kept commenting to cheer her up.

Afterward, she called me immediately, almost breathless: “Sir, did I do well?”

I told her, “Yes, you tried — but you must keep doing it to become better.”

She admitted, “I almost fainted. The tension and fear were too much.”

When I told her to rewatch her own video, she refused: “No, I won’t.” Her fear was so strong that she was even afraid to see herself.

But today, that same Gloria is bold, confident, and consistent. Her videos are everywhere on social media.

That’s how fear works: it seems overwhelming at first, but the moment you confront it repeatedly, it loses its power.

The Root of Fear

Fear is not real in itself — it exists only in your mind. It is fueled by destructive thoughts such as:

“I will make a fool of myself.”

“People will laugh at me.”

“The event will fail.”

“They will reject or criticize me.”

The moment you replace these negative thoughts with empowering ones, courage is born.

The Secret: Preparation

Preparation is the foundation of confidence. That’s why it’s often said: “Knowledge is power.”

The Bible also reminds us:

“Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
— 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

Ignorance breeds fear, but knowledge and preparation create boldness. When you know your subject, your joy and courage rise, even if you still feel a small “butterfly in your stomach.”

Think of it like speaking a language. If you don’t know the language well, you struggle and full of tension. But if you know it fluently, you can express yourself freely with confidence, because you understand it and have limitless choices of words. The same applies to any area of life: the more prepared and knowledgeable you are, the less grip fear has on you.
